Homemade Peanut Butter

There is nothing more homey than a good ole’ fashioned peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I’ll start by apologizing to the folks that have peanut allergies…but there is a caveat; you can make this recipe with almost any popular nut! Not only can you control the sweet, salty, creamy, chunky factors, but you can add extra touches to make your peanut butter your own. I added orange zest to mine and it is amazing! Who woulda thunk?

So, this recipe is super easy, minimal ingredients, minimal equipment and cheaper to make than it is to buy. YOU get to control exactly how you like your peanut butter! This recipe is geared towards the creamy and chunky peanut butter combo. I like the effects of both. Sweetened with organic honey, salted with large flake Kosher salt, a bit of canola and water…..that’s it! All you need is 20 minutes and a food processor and you will be making nut butters non-stop. It really is that easy and that satisfying!

Simple Peanut Butter Ingredients

Equipment

  • 1 Food processor
  • 1 Citrus zester
  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • Storage containers

Ingredients
  

  • 32 oz dry, roasted peanuts roughly chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups organic honey
  • 2 cups organic canola oil or melted coconut oil
  • 16 oz water
  • 2 tsp coarse flaked sea salt
  • 1 each large orange, washed and zested optional

Instructions
 

  • Measure 1 1/3 cups of peanuts and place to the side. Pour remaining peanuts into food processor. Puree peanuts until it becomes a thick, ball of paste.
    Peanut Butter Paste
  • Add honey and zest, if using, and continue to puree. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and continue to puree. With the processor running, drizzle in the oil until the entire amount has been added. Gradually add the water. You may not use the entire amount. You should have a smooth, creamy paste.
    Creamy Peanut Butter
  • Add salt to taste. Run the processor for 10 seconds, taste your peanut butter and add more salt if you desire. Pour out peanut butter into a large mixing bowl and add reserved peanuts. Stir to combine.

  • Store in an airtight container and use on everything!!!
